Old Our Friend Sammy Sosa Wants To Return To Baseball...

Reading the information super-highway the other day, I caught that Sammy Sosa -- a member of the 600 home run club -- was looking for a return to the Major Leagues.

The slugger who excited the world of baseball with his home run hitting ability, unabashed love for the game, and his infectious smile brought joy not only to Cubs fans in the 1990's, but to the world of baseball.

Furthermore, many credit him and Mark McGwire for rekindling the interest of the sport to fans and admirers alike; however, all the goodwill he had built up went pretty much down the toilet after his appearance on Capitol Hill years ago.

Quick Hits

More Drama in Tampa Bay: In 2006, quite a few Tampa Bay minor leaguers got in trouble with the law, in the minors and didn’t endear themselves well to either their organization or the media.

Well, 2007 may be a new year, but things have remained the same with some of the players. Uber-prospect, Elijah Dukes is in trouble once again.

He was arrested this week with another passenger and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession after a traffic stop. His vehicle was searched due the presence of marijuana smoke & less than 2 grams of marijuana was in found in the car.

Yet more on an old friend, Slammin’ Sammy Sosa: The Rangers have offered Sosa a minor league contract and invited him to spring training where he will battle for a roster spot.

Sigh.

Why the Rangers would want Sosa, I have no clue. They need pitching, and to stock-pile it, not sign some aging slugger; the team honestly has enough offense. I’m not sure if Sammy should come back if gets a roster spot based on 2005, but the man is closing in 600 homers and may help out Texas if regain some of the power that made him great for the Chicago Cubs.

The deal will be incentive-laden most likely, if he were to make the ream.

Rodrigo Lopez: He signed a one year deal with the Rockies, if anyone cares.
