Hot Stove News: Ayala Shot, Leyritz In a World of S**t: More Wheeling & Dealing...

* Shades of Dick Cheney? Nationals right-hander Luis Ayala was hit in the left forearm by a shotgun pellet during a hunting trip but is expected to be able to participate when spring training begins next month.

* Jim Leyritz is in a world of s**t: Former World Series star Jim Leyritz had a suspended license when he was charged with driving under the influence and killing a woman last week. Even he does not serve jail time, he'll be paying big time...

* The Texas Rangers agreed to terms with first baseman Ben Broussard on a one-year, $3.85 million contract.

* The Mets acquired outfielder Angel Pagan from the Cubs for outfielder Corey Coles and RHP Ryan Meyers.

* The Pittsburgh Pirates signed RHP Elmer Dessens, infielder Jose Macias and infielder Gabe Suarez to minor league contracts.

* The Reds signed 1B Andy Phillips, RHP Jim Brower, LHP Adam Pettyjohn, INF Andy Green and INF Jolbert Cabrera to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.

* Versatile Aaron Miles remained with the St. Louis Cardinals, agreeing Friday to a $1.4 million, one-year contract.

* The Cubs have received permission to add 70 "bullpen box seats" along the third base line and install additional digital signage at the old ball park (aka Wrigley Field) on the South Side of Chicago.

* Matt Clement and the Cardinals agreed to a $1.5 million, one-year contract with a club option for 2009.
