The Catching Situation, Revisiting Bako and Morneau...

As I think about the catching situation with Ramon Hernandez being out, and now Paul Bako and Alberto Castillo sharing the everyday duties behind the plate, I’m revisiting Justin Morneau’s hit on Paul Bako.

Was it a cheap shot by Morneau? Furthermore, did Morneau did deserve to see chin music or least get hit in his a**?

Lest we forget, Bako was covering home plate as Morneau was trying to score in the 4th inning. Nick Markakis made an excellent throw and got the ball to Bako in time. However, Morneau in lieu of trying to knock the ball of out of Bako’s hand cut him on the chin and left him real doozy.

Morneau was out by a mile, but he felt the need to run through Bako like a freight train.

Paul Bako is listed at 6’2” and 215, while Morneau is 6’4” and 225. Both men are close in size; however, Morneau had all the momentum.

I don’t know, this play still is in my mind. What do you think?

I think it was just the hockey coursing through Morneau's Canadian veins that made him barrel into Bako like that.
