Quick Hits -- O's Beat the Blue Jays, 5-4; Game Recap, Photo Gallery and Condensed Video...

Blue Jays and Orioles - April 20th

The Baltimore Orioles pulled off an amazing win last night at Camden Yards, as they beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-4 last night thanks to a walk-off single by Nick Markakis.

Daniel Cabrera started the game, and while he had problems with his command, he struck out seven and pitched into the seventh before being lifted for left handed reliever John Parrish.

A.J. Burnett pitched well, but did not get the win, as the Blue Jays bullpen faltered.

Melvin Mora hit a two run blast in the 4th inning, which tied the game at 2-2.

The Blue Jays made the score 4-2 in the 7th inning, as Vernon Wells who came into the game as pinch-hitter, got a single off John Parrish that whisked past Melvin Mora and Miguel Tejada.

The O’s comeback ensued in the 8th inning, as Kevin Millar hit a flicker in left that allowed Miguel Tejada to score and tied the game. Before that 4th run came in, the team got a third run as Aubrey Huff hit a sacrifice fly to score Nick Markakis.

Notes:

  • Markakis had three hits, and it shows that he is indeed not suffering through a sophomore slump.
  • After the game, Nick Markakis got shelled in the face with a shaving cream pie (pictures of it are in the slideshow).
  • I guess the B.J. Ryan injury is impacting the Blue Jays in a negative way…

The Baltimore Sun’s Jeff Zrebiec has a recap of the game. Roch Kubatko updated his blog with action and tidbits from the game.

As well, Adam Kilgore from the Washington Post has a game recap, as does the Baltimore Examiner.

Jay Payton has rejoined the team, but did not play yesterday. Sadly, the Orioles sent Jon Knott back to the minors, a move that will not resonate well with fans at all.

There’s more from Spencer Fordin about Jay Payton being activated. He’ll probably start Saturday in left field, and Kevin Millar along with Jay Gibbons may be fighting for playing time.

The new wall in the outfield did not come out as expected, thus the greenish color is off, according to Baltimore Sun writer Childs Walker.

Hey, whats the deal with Brian Roberts? Is he usually such a slow starter?
