Quick Hits - Early O's News...

Reserve player, Chris Gomez made the best of his start at first base last night. He was instrumental in the Orioles 6-4 win over the Kansas City Royals last night as he hit a grand slam home run in the 6th inning off Royals’ relief pitcher Joel Peralta.

In slick conditions, Daniel Cabrera went out and tried to get his second victory of the season, but was besieged by a lack of command and control problems (he hit two batters, though the 1st hit batter he hit *or did not*, David DeJesus did a marvelous acting job). He let two runs come in the 1st inning, then two more throughout his start. Overall, Daniel went 5 innings and struck out 5 hitters as well.

Scott Williamson got the win, and Chris Ray got the save.

Melvin Mora and Nick Markakis also drove in a run each.

The Orioles have won their third in a row, while the Royals have lost their 4th straight.

Baltimore Sun writer and blogger, Roch Kubatko, has more from last night’s game and gives us a little more insight into Chris Gomez.

Jeremy Guthrie is starting today against the Royals (assuming the Orioles play today). He’s starting in the place of Jaret Wright, as he is on the DL. On that note, Jeremy Guthrie is confident that he’ll be if does get the start today, according to Jorge Arangure of the Washington Post.

There’s even more on Jeremy Guthrie from the Baltimore Examiner and Spencer Fordin of the orioles.com.
