Quick Hits: The Game Last Night, Fast O's News and the Rundown

The Baltimore Orioles won their first game of the season yesterday, as they beat the New York Yankees 6-4 in conditions more suited for football in December than baseball in April.

Adam Loewen, the Yankee Killer, struck again and led the Black and Orange to victory against former Oriole, Mike Mussina.

He pitched six strong innings, and the relief pitchers John Parrish, Chad Bradford, Jamie Walker, Danys Baez and Chris Ray came went in order and kept the game in check for the Orioles.

The result of the game last night showed the Orioles spent so much money in the offseason.

Miguel Tejada had two big errors in the field, but the win made up for it.

As well, the offense woke up (finally) as Jay Gibbons, Corey Patterson, Aubrey Huff and Nick Markakis got key hits to lead the team to victory. The Birds hit Mussina hard in the first few innings, and was enough to hold onto the win against the powerful Yankees.

Today, Steve Trachsel faces another Japanese import, Kei Igawa at 1:05pm as the Orioles play the Yankees in the second game of a three game series.

Once again, it is expected to be bone chilling cold up there and in much of the Northeast.

Summer, can you not come soon enough?

The Spencer Fordin of the Orioles.com website has a recap of last night’s game, as does the Washington Post’s Jorge Arangure.

The always critical Peter Schmuck of the Baltimore Sun is happy the Orioles won.

Ramon Hernandez may be close to returning.

Well, the Orioles may be struggling at the game after nine losing seasons, but be rest assured, the team brings in plenty of money – in the tune of $170 million yearly! The Baltimore Examiner has more on this.

Can you imagine what the economy would be like around Camden Yards if they were winning! It’s vital that the Orioles do well so that the vendors, hotels, bars and restaurants can survive in the area.

It looks like MASN and the Dish Network have come to an agreement to air the network on their system. If you subscribe to the DISH Network, you'll find MASN on channel 432 and MASN2 on channel 433.

Several players around the league will wear No. 42 on April 15 in honor of Jackie Robinson, who made his Major League debut and broke baseball's color barrier on that date 60 years ago. Center fielder Corey Patterson will get the honor of wearing Robinson's number. Obviously, Corey Patterson is thrilled and the Baltimore Sun’s Jeff Zrebiec has more on Jackie Robinson Day next Sunday.

The Orioles.com has more details on this story.

Well, C-SPAN2 viewers are pissed at Comcast. Apparently, Comcast pre-empted several hours of programming to accommodate the Orioles game on C-SPAN2.

The Baltimore Sun has a question with Chad Bradford, and asks how he prepares for games in the cold weather.

Finally, Roch Kubatko updates his blog and reports that The Washington Post's Jorge Arangure is taking a job as senior baseball writer at ESPN the Magazine.

Jorge, if you read this blog, the best of luck at ESPN and I especially enjoyed your chats on the WashingtonPost.com site!

If that O's bullpen stays as good as it was last night, it will be money well spent by Angelos.

Agreed... of course, we have to have the starters make it to the latter innings, first...
