Packing It In - Welcome the Rebuilding Process; O's Lose 13-8...
Folks, it looks like 2007 is over and we all should look forward to next year.
In light of the Orioles' solid play, we all knew they were not getting to the playoffs, much less the wild card, but there was a glimmer, I mean a glimmer of hope that Orioles might make something of this season.
Let's kiss it goodbye.
Not that Gomez and Parrish were world-beaters and perhaps not part of future; however, Gomez had a role on the team. The good news is the two guys are playing for reason now and can take solace that they are on winning teams right now.
These moves mark a new future for the Orioles, and expect to see a lot of evaluation for next year.
With the move, Tike Redman has been called up to the majors along with Jim Hoey.

Well, the Orioles got beat and badly by the Mariners, 13-8. In the end, the Orioles' fielding, an inconsistent Daniel Cabrera (again), and the hot bats of the Mariners did the team in again and led Seattle to the season sweep.
The Orioles have lost third straight game.
Miguel Tejada hit a dramatic grand slam in the 3rd inning during the middle of a rainstorm to give the Orioles a 5-4 before the delay, but they coughed up the lead -- badly.

The Orioles' MLB & Washington Post site has news on the moves made on Thursday.
Columnist Rick Maese has a column of his own on the moves, and I think the Orioles need to do something at this point. It's been a decade of losing, and right now they should take out the time and see what they have at the lower levels. I think it will be interesting to see what the team does on the market in terms of luring free agents.
The Examiner has an article on the Orioles' All You Can Eat section...
Cal Ripken, Jr. has been appointed a "special sports envoy" by the State Department, and will act as a good-will ambassador to promote baseball & sports around the world.
