TEJADA TRADED - Miguel Tejada Traded to the Astros For Six Players

From the Baltimore Sun: "Two years after he first suggested that he'd benefit from a change of scenery, Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada finally got his wish as he was traded to the Houston Astros today in president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail's boldest move to date.

In return for the four-time All-Star, the Orioles will get outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third baseman Michael Costanzo."

It will be sad to see him go; however, at the state the team was in, there was no point in him still remaining an Oriole. The team is definitely going to rebuild, and for the amount Tejada was being paid, you need to have some like that on a contending team, not taking up payroll.

Some might have criticized Tejada for his fielding, sometimes sulky attitude, and for demanding a trade, but for the time he was in here in Baltimore, I'd say he produced with his bat and for the most part played with unbridled passion until as of late.

Maybe this move will help the batteries get recharged and he'll become productive there. The Astros no doubt got a player in Miguel, and he'll do some damage for Houston.

The player you'll most likely see in an Orioles uniform is Luke Scott right now, but the others you might see as part of the squad at some point or in the minors. I don't know if this trade so much excites me, but it brings fresh guys into the organization and some who may have a role in the future.

Unless the Orioles know something about Bedard's health that the public does not, I think they need to sign him up long term. They need to start rebuilding now, and sending Tejada off is a step in the right direction. They need to focus the team around their young leaders like Roberts, Bedard, and Markakis. With Guthrie they have a good 1-2 and need to develop the bullpen behind Ray. If they're smart with their money in free agency, they could be a contender with a base of young talent in a couple of seasons.

Nice that Luke Scott will now (most likely) have a full-time MLB role, since he was a fantasy sleeper pick of mine last year that never got off the ground due to lack of playing time.

Houston gave up a lot; however, I guess they feel that they can compete in the NL Central. I agree with your thoughts 100%, but if Bedard has no interest in staying in Baltimore, I just say flip him for more young talent.

Baltimore not keeping Bedard would be the worst thing they could do. I think this was a great trade for the Orioles, Andy MacPhail should continue to build from the ground up and like you said, get better relievers.
