Quick Hits: Another One Bites the Dust, O's Lose Again and the Rundown...

Well, as we all know by now, the Orioles lost a very close game to the Detroit Tigers by a score of 3-2, thus extending the team’s slide even further. Even though Sam Perlozzo shuffled the lineup to add a spark to the team and try something different, the end result was the same – yet another loss.

Tigers got a series sweep thanks to Gary Sheffield. Did Cabrera just awake a sleeping giant?

The Orioles now have lost 10 out of their last 11 games, and are now 4 games under .500.

Steve Trachsel pitched a respectable game, giving up homers to Gary Sheffield, and Craig Monroe. In addition to the homer, Gary Sheffield drove in another run.

Trachsel went 7 innings, struck out one, gave up eight hits, and walked two before being lifted for Chris Ray.

The Orioles runs were driven in by Jay Payton and Melvin Mora, who managed to get a bases loaded walk to allow Brian Roberts to score.

Now there’s news that Adam Loewen is hurting. He’s scheduled to see a team doctor today because his throwing arm that has been bothering him for the last month(!). It may have played a role in the walks he has accumulated, but it is never good news to hear one of your starting pitchers suffer through pain.

I would not be surprised to see him miss a start or two to recuperate (assuming he does not go on the DL). It’s still early, so give him the rest he needs.

As mentioned yesterday, Baltimore Orioles Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Joe Foss is stepping down to accept a position as Chief Administrative Officer with Erickson Retirement Communities, based in Catonsville. It sounded like Mr. Foss wanted to take on a new opportunity, and for that I wish him the best of luck.

According to the Examiner, “Foss, 58, most recently was heavily involved in building the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, which is owned by Orioles owner Peter Angelos. Foss was a part of Angelos’ acquisition team in 1993 and served as supervisor of the transition of ownership from Edward Bennett Williams.”

He was definitely important to the team, and was pretty much the right hand man to Peter Angelos.

Well, at least something went the Orioles way – MLB had denied the Indians’ protest of Saturday’s game.

Michael Olesker of the Examiner wished the Tigers and the Orioles would have got it on in Michigan on Monday night…
