The Coarsening of Sports, Part XX; Knicks vs. Nuggets Fight 12-16-06

Woohoo. My first non-baseball post over!

Well, it was fight night at Madison Sqauare Garden on Saturday.

Two Novembers ago, we all remember the ugliness of the Brawl in Detroit. Fast forward to last night...

Here we go again.

In another display of boorishness and self-anointed machoism, an ugly fight broke out between the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets as Carmelo Anthony a littany of others (10!) were ejected for a brawl between the Nuggets and Knicks. The Knicks felt disprected as they felt that their team that felt it was shown up on their home floor at MSG.

While J.R. Smith was attempting a layup, the Kicks Mardy Collins committed a flagrant foul by going over Smith's back and knocking him down.

Then, the madness ensued.

See the tape. It says it all.

It is little wonder why many people see NBA players, and some athletes as poor role models and thugs? One would think after the fight in Detroit, the players would learn such idiocy is never good for the image and especially the bottom line (ala the paycheck).

Assume suspensions and fines galore. Baltimore's athlete Carmelo should be out many games - I say 10 or so. I'm sure David Stern didn't sleep easy last night and something will come out by Monday or so.
