Could Cal Ripken Become the Orioles Owner? - News from Ken Rosenthal, foxsports.com

Wow. This could be a rumor, it could not be; but, if it's true, it could be a watershed moment for this team.

According to Ken Rosenthal of foxsports.com, Cal Ripken and Peter Angelos have been taking about a group headed by Ripken taking control of the Orioles. Mr. Rosenthal notes that it may or may not happpen, but it would be slow in nature and would be similiar to how Modell transferred control of the Ravens to it's current owner, Steve Bisciotti.

Such a purchase would require quite a bit of captial, but the upside is that a local icon would have a say in the team's operation and would greatly expand his already impressive baseball portfolio. Considering Angelos' reputation as an owner and lawyer, it maybe short-sighted at the moment that he would yield control so easily.

This could be a move that brings the fans back, and more importantly restores a layer of hope for the Orioles' organization. A long shot and very remote, but you never know.
