Quick Hits: Craig Biggio and MLB Stuffage
Stupid is as Stupid Does: I have to give credit to the Babes Who Love Baseball for heads on up this entry, but apparently, the commissioner’s office has told Craig Biggio to stop wearing a pin on his cap that bears the logo of a the Sunshine Kids, a foundation that helps children with cancer.
“Biggio, the national spokesman for the foundation, said he has worn the bright yellow, sun-shaped pin on his hat every spring for the past 20 years without a problem.
"I'm not a disrespectful person and I don't disrespect the game," Biggio said. "But I've been wearing this pin for 20 years because it puts smiles on 20,000-something cancer patients' faces."
Ok, I know there’s a uniform policy in Major League Baseball and other sports, but is a pin promoting cancer awareness placed on a cap be that bad?
The only situation that is similar to this that has pissed me more was when the NFL reprimanded Jake Plummer while he was with the Arizona Cardinals as he honored the death of Pat Tillman by writing (42 – Tillman’s number) on his helmet.
Sometimes sports leagues can be so corporate that they trump image over empathy and common sense.
MLB is wrong in this case.
Stupid, Utterly stupid...
Other MLB Stuffage:
- A-Rod refuses to talk about his contract…
- Stud catcher Joe Mauer is out with a stress fracture in his leg…
- Oops, Manny’s grill violated EBay Policy – (too funny)…
- Papelbon back as the closer for the Red Sox…
- Chone Figgins sidelined with a bad finger…
- Braves Catcher Brian McCann signs a 6 year deal with the Braves…

Agreed with sooze.
Also, way to go on your blog appearing in SI - that's very exciting and well-deserved
Sigh - It's a shame MLB is clamping down on a pin that is *promoting* a great cause...
