Quick Hits and MLB Stuffage...
Today, I watched
I’m up a little late and here’s my post for the evening.
The big news out of camp today was that five players were cut, including popular Brandon Fahey who struggled in camp, top pitching prospect Hayden Penn, pitchers Kurt Birkins, Jon Leicester and Rob Bell. Almost everyone will start the season on the minors, and it will be determined later if some of these guys will be called up later on.
Jaret Wright has been inconsistent, but the Orioles beat the Cardinals 6-5.
There’s a Q&A with Jay Gibbons.
The Examiner has an article on the emergence of Nick Markakis as both a player and a babe magnet (Thanks to Ian of Random Thoughts for the tip).
MLB Stuffage:
- Slick fielding first-baseman Travis Lee was released by the Washington Nationals.
- Ken Griffey played his first game in Spring Training on Saturday, and he will most likely be the Cincinnati Reds every day outfielder.
- Pittsburgh Pirate and NL batting champ Freddy Sanchez will most likely start the season on the DL.
- Yankee ace Chien-Ming Wang is on the DL and will not start Opening Day for the team. News is Carl Pavano may start! If Pavano does well for the Yankes on Opening Day, the bridge between he, his teammates and the fans will be stronger than ever.
- Chan Ho Park is now in the Mets bullpen…
- Check out Ted Robinson’s baseball blog on MSNBC as he looks at which teams need to have a great first few months to alleviate pressure.
- Tony Marco ponders about Barry Bonds and the home run record. He thinks that Alex Rodriguez will eclipse it and I agree.
