Quick Hits - Fast and Early O's News...

This year’s spring training has been quite pleasant and controversy free for the Orioles, considering there are position battles such as with first base, designated hitter and the outfield, thus, writer Jeff Zrebiec lets us the know the details.

O’s youngster Garrett Olson got lit up, but settled down afterwards in his first Grapefruit League start. The Baltimore Sun has a Q&A with Terry Tiffee & also writer Dan Connolly.

The Examiner also has an article on prospect Garrett Olson who’s vying for a spot on the big league team, despite being only a few credits short of his engineering degree (go him!) and reports Jay Gibbons will start at first in today’s exhibition game.

The Washington Post as well has stuff on Garrett Olson and Jay Gibbons.

I like Bedard & his numbers were comparable to Zito's in '06.

He was 15-11 last with an ERA of 3.76, and has an ok fastball, but his breaking and off-speed stuff make him very effective. This year will be big for him, though.

The only downside with Bedard is that he's struggled with bouts of inconsistency, but it's gotten a lot better.

If he's not too pricey, he's a good buy.
