For the Idiot File: Ann Coulter, Words of Hate and Bigotry

The freedom is speech in this country is an alienable right. For years, that particular privilege in the United States has allowed us to speak out against injustice, protest, & gives us the ability of personal expression.

It has been used for good and the betterment of society, but also for bad, and sometimes people say stupid things.

Today, we add Miss Ann Coulter, political pundit, to the Idiot File.

She’s on the right of the political spectrum, and does like not liberals, Democrats and those who don’t agree with her – fine and well.

But what she did this weekend was nothing short of disgusting and it makes me wonder if she believes half the garbage coming from her mouth, if she says something just to get a response, or she is just crazy.

I think it’s a combination of the three.

From CNN: Prominent politicians from both parties and a gay-rights group on Saturday condemned right-wing commentator Ann Coulter for her reference Friday to Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards as a "faggot."

"Ann Coulter's use of an anti-gay slur yesterday was un-American and indefensible," Edwards said in a posting on his Web site, www.johnedwards.com.

"In America, we strive for equality and embrace diversity. The kind of hateful language she used has no place in political debate or our society at large.

"I believe it is our moral responsibility to speak out against that kind of bigotry and prejudice every time we encounter it." (CNN)

Look, I have many friends who are on the right, and are Republican – simply put, Ms. Coulter does not speak for their beliefs.

To be quite honest, what she said was quite disgusting and it has no place in political discourse, much less in society. For a lady who has made a career and a lot of money running her mouth, being outrageous (and obnoxious), and asserting her opinion, she has way over the deep end.

No matter what you believe, this crap has no place in America and society. Believe what you think about society, but to malign a group of people and insult them is wrong.

The politics of bigotry has reared its ugly head no matter how much you try to spin it, and once again I’ll toss out the cliché, “if you have nothing nice to say about someone, it should not be said at all.”
