Quick Hits - Fast and Early O's News...

Morning everyone!

The Sun has a recap of the Grapefruit League game against the Marlins yesterday, where they played to a 2-2 tie.

Kris Benson, as noted yesterday is in even more pain and might need surgery after all for his shoulder.

The Orioles.com website has more on the Kris Benson injury & another recap of yesterday’s game against the Marlins.

Hayden Penn feels good after a minor setback with his ankle injury, and is closer to being ready. As well, there’s a Q&A with pitcher Jim Johnson.

Sadly, thanks to the losing way of the Orioles, it is no surprise businesses (from the vendors to the hotels) are hurting & a crown jewel of sports in Maryland, the Sports Legend Museum at Camden Yards is struggling. For business that depend on fanfare to survive, it’s critical that the Orioles do better at the gate and more importantly on the field.

The performance of the team, no doubt has a trickle effect on local businesses in the vicinity of Camden Yards.

The Examiner reports Erik Bedard once again looked good against the Marlins, & more on Kris Benson and his injury situation.

The Washington Post’s Jorge Arangure reports that Hayden Penn is primed for his debut today in spring training, & more on Kris Benson.

Wow, Benson really hasn't ever reached his potential and I wonder if he ever will.

Sorry to say, he's not going to be any better -- he's Mr. Average

Kris Benson needs surgery. There's no way to go around that. I understand why the O's are insisting that he tries rehabbing non-surgically first, but that's just postponing what's inevitable. And they need to think that even if he returned this season, he's not going to pitch well, not with that kind of injury.

On the opposite end, Bedard and Cabrera...Yes, it's only Spring Training, but I can hardly contain my excitement! They have pitched like the studs they are, and I think there's no reason to believe they won't continue to do so. I truly think that both are going to be fantastic this season
