Quick Hits - Late Edition

  • According to the Los Angeles times, the Orioles are of one teams interested in Darrin Erstad.

“Erstad, limited to 40 games last season, began running on flat ground three weeks ago and has experienced no setbacks. He will begin taking batting practice Monday and has been cleared to resume all baseball activities.

Erstad said six teams have expressed serious interest in signing him, either as a left fielder, center fielder or utility player. Though he declined to name the teams, the Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners are believed to be among them.”

In all seriousness, where would he fit into the team? With the Huff and Payton signings, plus with Patterson and Markakis, where would he fit in? Anyhow, Erstad was a fine player a few years ago, but he’s been injury riddled. He’s 32, but he’s an old 32, and it would not be worth the risk to the Orioles.

Stockpiling talent is great, but Erstad is a bad fit for this team.

  • The Orioles in 2007 will now air their games on WHFS, the sister station of ESPN 1300 in Baltimore, rather than WBAL. This was announced on the Anita Marks Show.
