Quick Hits: O's Related

Orioles Ticket Prices: As posted a week ago on the Oriole Post, the Baltimore Sun came out with an article today in the paper noting that the team was instituting “prime games”, in which regaular tickets would higher for select games, which were Opening Day and games against the Yankees and the Red Sox.

It would make perfect business sense for “prime games” to be in place for Yankee and Red Sox games, since they attract the majority of visitors to the park and vast majority of those fans who pay for ticket root for those teams.

From what I know, season ticket holders are exempt from the “prime game” pricing.

A lot of teams throughout the league already have this policy for select games against particular teams.

Around the League:

Finally: According to the MLB News Blog, “The Boston Red Sox are nearing the completion of their five-year, $70 million contract with J.D. Drew, a deal that was announced by agent Scott Boras in December but delayed due to concerns over the outfielder’s right shoulder. “We’ve moved forward on this and fully expect to have it completed in their near future,” Boras said Friday. The Red Sox reached a preliminary agreement with Drew at the baseball winter meetings on Dec. 5.”

What the hell took so long?

Football, No. Baseball, Yes: Notre Dame’s Jeff Samardzija went with his heart and chose baseball over football. He was projected as a first-round pick in the NFL draft this April, but agreed to a $10 million, five-year contract to pitch for the Chicago Cubs today. He may never make it to the majors, but the money is guaranteed.
