Peter Schmuck opines about the transactions and improvements the Orioles conducted during the winter in his article, ‘O's Don't Rock House, but Make Progress’. While he agrees the Orioles have improved, the moves are more or less baby steps back to respectability and becoming a contender, rather than having hopes of winning the AL East or wild card in ’07.
* According to ESPN, second baseman Mark Loretta will sign with the Houston Astros. The deal is for one year at $2.5 million, but could be worth as much as $3.5 million with incentives, said Loretta's agent, Bob Garber.
* Padres pitcher Jake Peavy was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Thursday at

Peter Schmuck, despite his unfortunate names, usually makes sense -- and today was no exception. The O's aren't going to become a condender overnight -- especially in the AL East. But they've had a good offseason and that's a reason to be happy for us O's fans (and bloggers).
